In the West Balkans, Marco Fantozzi works with Jurica Kovac, who has 15 years of experience in the water industry. From 1997 he has been developing and promoting new ideas, technologies and methodologies in the region of former Yugoslavia regarding water losses reduction strategies, initially as technical manager of IMGD VODA-TECHNOLOGIA-EKOLOGIJA, and since 2010 as an independent consultant. Jurica is a pioneer and leader in the region specialising in water leakage reduction programs in water distribution networks (leak detection surveys, strategy development for the utilities), measurements (instruments for flow, pressure, level,…), monitoring (data loggers, data transfer, district metering…), pressure control (pressure reduction valves, automatic control), management, and training (courses regarding methodology and technology based on on-field experience for employees in water utility companies).

In 2005, Jurica started active promotion of IWA best practice methods regarding water losses, with pilot projectsin two Utilities, one of which is Zagreb water and sewerage utility, capital of Croatia, and one of the largest in the region. Jurica has published a number of papers on issues related to water losses, and participated in internationally financed programs (Alliance to save energy, USAID Ecolinks program) regarding implementation of water losses reduction projects.
